Challenges pastors face

With all the challenges facing the Body of Christ, we’re going to discuss in particular the hurdles church leaders often face when shepherding their flock and equipping their people.  Some of the opportunities we have in the church today to reach the lost are tremendous. But the challenges are growing exponentially as well in these times we are in. It’s new territory, and we’re going to talk particularly today about the many ways pastors are challenged. What do we need to know to support them? And how can we all get better at strengthening our churches?

  1. Mr Davis says:

Of all the challenges Pastors face none is so serious as reclaiming the Gospel as is was once and for all handed down by the apostles.

It could be argued what we call the gospel today is no gospel at all, as no clear definitive understanding of ourselves as we really are, an abonination standing before a Holy, Righteous, Just, Perfect, God and shacking our fist at Him who is seated in the heavenly realms, wishing ourselves to be on His thrown and Him dead; for that is what rebellion is. It is utter treachery against God, who is by definition Love. This is what sin is.

    Luke 6:46 KJV
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

We love to hate God, we prove this by our sin when we place our will above God's will which by its very nature always Good and Perfect and Right. This is why we need to be saved and not from the evil one but from ourselves and the evil that is in us. This is why Christ came to save sinners who could not save themselves because they cannot.

There was no other way: Three times Christ Jesus pleaded with the Father if it were possible to let this cup pass from him. Three times! Each time Christ also added yet not my will but your will be done. There was no other way! No one else could do it! No one else could satisfy God justice against sin. The offering had to be perfect, the offering had to be eternal, the offering had to be a man, the offering had to be willing to bear the full penalty knowing the full cost. There is no other! The Servant who would suffer needed to be God incarnate! The Christ is God of very God! He would take our sins, all of them, for all of mankind, for all of time, in His own flesh and then purge Himself of our sins through His death on the Cross and Himself enduring at the hands of wicked men all the humiliation and the opening of His flesh that led up to that final moment when He would declair with His own Lips it is finished the debt is paid, the sins are purged.

His death wasn't faked. The spear would testify to the truth and from its work finding the place where the heart should be, water gushed mingled with blood. John saw the soldier do this and testified of what he saw. Christ body was gathered up by Joseph and buried Christ in a clean place, a tomb of the rich, in which no one had been buried. His body would remain in the bowels of the earth for three days and three nights just as he said. at the Dawn of the First day of the week, the tomb would be opened and the temple guard who stood watch would see and faint.

He was risen from the dead by the Holy Spirit just as he said proving God the Father, found Christ's work acceptable. Christ himself was wittnessed by many even hundreds over the course of 40 days, where He was touched, His wounds pressed, He would speak and eat and break bread and He was worshiped just as the Father is worshiped. After 40 days He assended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of God. God has exalted Him and given Him a name above all names. That at the Name of Christ Jesus, every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

He will come again to reign as King and to judge in righteousness and to whom all mankind will give an account and all others who joined in rebellion against the Lord's Christ. Christ has been given authroity to aquit whom He wills, those the Father has given Him. These are whom the Scriptures speak in Isaiah 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:1-14

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith , Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. John 1:29-34

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. John 3:5-7

And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean : from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. Ezekiel 36:23-27

If you have not had a heart change you have not been born again.

Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations. Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, Ezekiel 36:31-32

If you are not convinced of the evil in yourself and repented of your rebellion against God and see yourself as loathsome even in your own eyes have you been converted?

  2. forgive my zeal: just listening to this episode, i can pull out specific scenes from the web series "Leaving Eden" which reflect the trials you've discussed. I hope you all give it a look.

p.s. – we built the show with no income model, so I don't make a dime out of you all watching. we didn't create it for profit, but just to tell a story. 🙂
