The Message spawns more books

Just in time for “X-mas,” Touching Wonder is a new book is based on The Message, which is NOT a translated Bible but an interpretation from Eugene Peterson, and which distorts God’s Word.  As Raymond Clements points out,

“The Message Bible”…is actually not a Bible.  It is a message from the enemy specially crafted to filter through a veil of Scripture so as to “deceive even the elect” (Mk. 13:22).  Supposedly, The Message is harmless, just another translation in contemporary style, but one quick look should show anyone that it is a questionable paraphrase at best.  SOURCE

Here’s what the publisher has to say about Touching Wonder:

This bold retelling of Luke 1–2, based on Eugene Peterson’s Message translation, reads like a novel and invites readers to experience the Nativity with fresh wonder.

To Eugene Peterson’s The Message Bible translation, John Blase adds his own storytelling voice, exploring the familiar events from multiple first-person viewpoints. What emerges is the intimate story of unlikely people—a frightened teenaged girl, a worried carpenter, a collection of senior citizens, a disillusioned young shepherd—meeting up with the divine as they bumble and stumble toward the realization that the little one just born is the One.

  1. John says:

Ah, no, not again. This thing (not a Bible, not a paraphrase since it subtracts passages) has done so much damage.

  2. Mr Davis says:

"meeting up with the divine as they bumble and stumble toward the realization that the little one just born is the One".

    The One what exactly?

Very God of Very God, who stepped out of Glory and took upon Himself Human flesh, clothing himself with the seed of a woman, being found in every way a man, even being born as all men are, as it was foretold according to the scriptures. The God Man the Christ, the Lamb of God who would take away the sins of the world, the Kinsman Redeemer, I AM.

And for what purpose did He come?

Was it not to live in perfect obedience and so be able to die for our sins and pay the just penalty for our disobedience according to the scriptures, to be buried according to the Scriptures and be raised again as it was foretold according to the Scriptures and in so doing destroy the works of the Devil, as it was foretold according to the Scriptures.

The innocent would die for the guilty. The Life is in the Blood!

Was it not to cut a new covenant by His blood and so provide a new and living way through His flesh, that through being born again of the Holy Spirit we may receive Christ Jesus and so reject all that is against Christ, all that this world has to offer that we may Live and Have Life Abundantly. For it is not found here it is found in Christ and if we are in Him who can be against us.

Oh Praise God that He would see fit to save us so we would live for the Glory of His Name and equip us for that very task by the Holy Spirit of God. Who is God!

2 Peter 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
