Silencing Christians: It’s real

If you think that the dismantling of religious liberty and freedom is something that isn’t happening in America and even in our own back yards, you may be in for a bit of a shock as we get into today’s program.  Today our guest is Erik Stanley, Alliance Defending Freedom (Formerly called “Alliance Defense Fund”), is here to explain how the number of discrimination cases against Christians is skyrocketing.

Here is how the Church is being silenced across America.

  • A second-grade student at a public school in New Jersey was told that she could not sing “Awesome God” in an after-school talent show.
  • A pastor of a church in Arizona was ordered to stop holding meetings or Bible studies in his private home.
  • Five Christian men were threatened with arrest for sharing their faith on a public sidewalk in Virginia.
  • A Christian student at a university in Missouri was threatened with having her degree withheld because she refused to write a letter to the state legislature expressing her support for homosexual adoption.
  • A pro-life nurse at a hospital in New York was forced to participate in a late-term abortion, even though her workplace had agreed in writing to honor her religious convictions.

There is a growing trend of government intrusion into the affairs of the Church, posing a serious threat to church autonomy and our most basic religious freedoms. Pastors are being censored, the proclamation of God’s Truth is being blocked, and churches are being discriminated against and threatened with punishment.  Was this the intent of our founding fathers?

  • In Michigan, the radical group “Bash Back” invaded Mount Hope Church and disrupted a worship service while showering the congregation with propaganda on homosexual behavior.
  • In Montana, Canyon Ferry Road Baptist Church faced election law charges after a volunteer passed out petitions to place a marriage amendment on the Montana ballot.
  • In Arizona, Gilbert city officials ordered Oasis of Truth Church to stop meeting or holding Bible studies in its pastor’s private home.
  • In Illinois, the City of Carlinville refused to allow Carlinville Southern Baptist Church to use a building it had purchased for worship services.
  • In Louisiana, a federal contractor ordered Calvary Baton Rouge Church to stop feeding people left homeless by Hurricane Katrina because the group offered a voluntary prayer service and Bible study
  • Locally, Fields of Faith was banned form their third annual event at a local high school, even though it was after school and totally student-driven.
