Is Obamacare the beginning of the end?

English: To avoid any constitutional problems,...

Many Christians are standing up and sounding the alarm that theSupreme Court’s decision today to uphold Obamacare as constitutional, including the controversial individual mandate, is the open door to what will be the slow erosion of our religious freedoms.

Here is the ruling from Christian Post:

Supreme Court Upholds ‘Obamacare’

Many court watchers were expecting the individual mandate to be struck down as an overreach of congressional power. Congress has the authority because the penalty for not buying health insurance is a tax, the court said.

Chief Justice John Roberts, who was appointed by President George W. Bush, joined the liberal wing of the court in the 5 to 4 ruling.

The ACA was one of President Barack Obama‘s most significant accomplishments. It expanded access to health care through a patchwork of laws that built upon existing government programs. It expanded access to Medicaid for the poor, required more employers to provide health coverage and established state-level health care exchanges for those who did not have access to employer-provided health insurance, Medicaid or Medicare.

One of the central features of the ACA is the requirement that individuals carry health insurance. By requiring everyone to buy health insurance, the individual mandate promises to lower the costs of health insurance for all by having more healthy people paying into the system.

The only limitation the court placed on the ACA was to say that Congress cannot penalize states that choose to forego Medicaid funds, and the strings that come attached to those funds, by taking away funds that the states have already received.

The four liberals on the court, Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor, Steven Breyer and Elena Kagan, would uphold Congress’ authority to establish the individual mandate under the Commerce Clause. To form the majority, they joined Roberts’ opinion, saying that Congress does not have the authority under the Commerce Clause but does have the authority under its taxing power. In essence, if someone refuses to buy health insurance, they can pay the penalty instead, which is essentially a tax.

It looks like Roberts got seduced by the dark side. If Congress can impose a tax to pay for its every whim how is it an elected body?

Give it a rest, guys. I live in Canada where health care is free and available to all. We get taxed to pay for it, sure, but it's a whole lot better than having no health care, or crooked insurance companies with all their loopholes. God's trying to bless your country with this….stop kicking against the goads.

Brad: If you get taxed for it, then it's not free. Unless, of course, taxes at whatever rate the government wants to use is not your money to begin with (we all know it's God's gift to us).
I also don't think it's God's intent to "bless us" with 100% coverage for abortifacient drugs that terminate the beings He has created.

This is an endeavor that was touted decades ago, the old and disabled will be euthanized to keep from spending the money to care for them also it saves on the Social Security tax that they have said the older people are causing to be drained.
The truth is the older people are the ones who have been paying for Social Security benefits to the older generation and the disabled.
The high minded criminals(the Banksters) only want more money and they will have it any way they choose by thievery, deceit and even murder(euthanasia).

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

    Peace be unto you

Good grief. What a bunch of nonsense. In Canada we enjoy socialized medicine, just like every other industrialized country in the world, except America. We don't euthanize the elderly (it's illegal), although sadly we do euthanize fetuses. Every citizen gets full coverage! My wife has been in and out of hospitals for years. If we'd have moved to Texas like we had planned to 20 years ago the insurance companies there would have dumped us for being too costly, and we'd be up to our eyeballs in debt. I'd much rather pay a few dollars a year in taxes in the Canadian system so that everyone in this country, including myself, can be covered for health issues. WAKE UP AMERICA! Obama's been a God-send to you. I'm so tired of reading your "conspiracy theory" crap. You're just plain WRONG.

IAMone2 — Good grief. Your scare-mongering is pathetic. Universal Health Care doesn't euthanize old people to save money. My mother's 87-yrs old and demented. Health Care has wonderfully paid for her entire hospital stay when she fell and broke her hip, found her a wonderful Nursing Home to live in, and is paying for her entire care in that place.

Jeff — of course it's not "free". We do pay taxes to support it. But it isn't choking the life out of us. And it's a whole lot cheaper to pay taxes every year than it is to get a bill from a hospital because an insurance company found another loophole to avoid paying my costs.

The United States is the ONLY COUNTRY in the industrialized world that hasn't implemented universal health care. Time to wake up America.
