Government: A time to submit?

Bust of Gaius Julius Caesar in the National Ar...

Bust of Gaius Julius Caesar

The Bible says we are to submit to our government, no matter who is in charge:

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience.~Romans 13:1-7 ESV

Here are more verses from the Old and New Testament that speak of submitting to human authority in our churches and in government.

Today we’re talking about these questions with political writer Robert Meyer. You can check out his Renew America articles here.  We’re also referencing A Christian Manifesto, a book by Francis Schaeffer showing why morality and freedom have crumbled in our society. A Christian Manifesto is literally a call for Christians to change the course of history by returning to biblical Truth and by allowing Christ to be Lord in all of life.

  1. Mr Davis says:

Who ever opposes the Government will be seen as evil, peaceful or not.

This is why we are to concentrate on the Gospel of Christ Jesus and leave the Government in the Lord's very capable hands.

  2. Mr Davis says:

Isaiah 45:5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: 6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. 7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

Everything serves the purposes of God, both the Good and the Evil. And lets be clear here only God is good.

  3. Justin says:

    READ: Francis Schaeffer, Christian Manifesto

"A true Christian in Hitler's Germany and in the occupied countries should have defied the false and counterfeit state and hidden his Jewish neighbors from the German SS Troops. The government had abrogated its authority, and it had no right to make any demands." – Schaeffer

  4. Mr Davis says:

I think the true Christians did all they could, some even ended up inside the very concentration camps they tried to keep the Jews out of as payment for their acts of insubordination.

As long as we are on this topic, please be aware our government is already establishing internment "reeducation" camps for the purpose of "Reeducating the Non Compliant". Some will go to these places and die for their faith. Some will go and not stand only to later repent and die anyways. Some will not stand at all and out of fear will embrace a new master and a new way even to the detriment of thier own soul.

Some will flee to places that are already operating in secrete and have been for years and the occasional death keeps the passion and focus on Christ and Him crucified.

Some will flee to the wilderness forsaking fellowship and turn thier focus on self preservation to their own demise.

Folks these days are almost upon us. I pray when we are tried and wieghed in the balances that we are not found wanting but rather find Christ is our sufficiency even unto death by whatever means it comes.

  5. Larry says:

The lack of a religious exemption in Obamacare qualifies as grounds for resistance based upon Christian conscience. Agree?
