Homosexual marriage: Was it ever a “Christian Rite?”

Saints Sergius and Bacchus. 7th Century icon. ...Christian, be on the watch for a new heresy beginning to spread among believers and non-believers alike to make gay marriage more palatable to the followers of Jesus Christ.  A Yale professor is validating claims that historically, same-sex marriage was supposedly a normal practice in the Church in the 10th – 12th centuries. A fellow watchman shared these claims found in an article titled, When Same-Sex Marriage Was a Christian Rite.  The article points to a number of places where same sex unions took place – as if it were even true that any believing Christian of that day would openly repudiate, deny and more.

Here are three excerpts from the article, which you will no doubt encounter in the weeks and months ahead:

“A Kiev art museum contains a curious icon from St. Catherine’s Monastery on Mt. Sinai in Israel. It shows two robed Christian saints. Between them is a traditional Roman ‘pronubus’ (a best man), overseeing a wedding. The pronubus is Christ. The married couple are both men.”

“Contrary to myth, Christianity’s concept of marriage has not been set in stone since the days of Christ, but has constantly evolved as a concept and ritual.”

“Prof. John Boswell, the late Chairman of Yale University’s history department, discovered that in addition to heterosexual marriage ceremonies in ancient Christian church liturgical documents, there were also ceremonies called the “Office of Same-Sex Union” (10th and 11th century), and the “Order for Uniting Two Men” (11th and 12th century)”

This is how gay marriage will pushed down the throats of Christians, and many will walk away from Christ.
Now you know.

  1. Well seeing as this would be before the reformation and it is quite possible that these so-called "traditions" are discovered among those professing to be saints, it means nothing to the truth of the Christian faith that was founded on the apostles. Traditions from ages past from some so-called "christian" Church proves nothing as I reject any organization that denies the Word of God as the sole source for living and practice of a Christian. So what, during the dark ages, men were sinners. That changes nothing. Nothing is new under the Sun. Homosexual practice dates as far back as the days of Noah and the OT and I don't doubt it was even practiced among many so-called religious or godly groups, but that does NOT make it Orthodox or Biblical. It merely proves that there is but a remnant always of true believers amongst the visible church. So, really, you are right many professing believers may be beguiled and bewitched when they hear that the "traditions" of the early church contradicted the Word of God, but that won't be the first nor the last time that this has happened. It will merely be further evidence of who is TRUE and who is FALSE among the visible church.

It is an encouragement to see young people know and understand the Word of God.
    Keep up the good fight.

My cousin (the "spiritual not religious," Universalist, believer in reincarnation type) sent me that article last week during one of our numerous debates. My response to him was, "the church has a long history of corruption & letting tradition/rites/the Pope have equal or greater authority than the Scripture & sound doctrine. This is another reason to never let anyone tell you what the Bible says without digging into it yourself & testing them against the Scripture. All the twisting & corruption of the Scripture & claims of extra-Biblical revelation (i.e. dictates of the Pope) is what led to the Reformation….Humans are not perfect & never will be this side of Heaven. If such things as that article claim happened within the church actually did happen, it is no different than liberal churches these days ordaining practicing homosexuals. Just because a group of people do something & say it is ok does not change The Truth."
