Of sycamores, cedars and harbingers: A dire warning for America

The roots of a sycamore tree at Ground Zero felled on Sept. 11, 2001, have been preserved as a memorial to the event in New York City.

What do sycamore and cedar trees have to do with biblical prophecy, the tragic events of 9/11 and the imminent future of the United States?
Everything, according to the Old Testament prophet Isaiah. In fact, our guest today says that Isaiah Chapter 9 is an urgent wake-up call for all Americans in light of what happened on that fateful day a decade ago.

“The Harbinger” by Jonathan Cahn, a messianic rabbi from the Jerusalem Center-Beth Israel Congregation in Wayne, N.J., it is the largest messianic congregation in America. Rabbi Cahn says there are stunning connections between what some may think is a cryptic biblical prophecy to the news events happening right now, in our current time.

A “harbinger” is a foretelling of what is to come. And Jonathan says before God judges a nation, He sends warning.  Just as He sent warning to ancient Israel, the attacks of 9/11 were a warning. And like ancient Israel, if the nation ignores God’s warning there will be dire consequences, Jonathan says.  The Harbinger is a novel with fictional characters, but the warning is quite real.

Here is what God told the Israelite nation in Isaiah 9:

The Lord has sent a message against Jacob;
it will fall on Israel.
All the people will know it—
Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria—
who say with pride
and arrogance of heart,
“The bricks have fallen down,
but we will rebuild with dressed stone;
the fig trees have been felled,
but we will replace them with cedars.”

  1. Mr Davis says:

    Here is the entire passage for those who haven't seen this yet. To ignor this is folley. To not fall on our faces in repentance of our own wickedness and idolatry is to shake your fist at the Lord of Lords and then what hope have you? The Lord has chosen His hired razor and he is being made ready to the work the Lord has appointed for him. He waits as an arrow drawn upon a bow, waiting!

    Starting in Isaiah 9

    8 The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel. 9 And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart, 10 The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.

    11 Therefore the LORD shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together ; 12 The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

    13 For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts. 14 Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day. 15 The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail. 16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.

    17 Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer , and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away , but his hand is stretched out still.

    18 For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke. 19 Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother. 20 And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied : they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm:

    21 Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still

    10:1 Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed; 2 To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

    3 And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory? 4 Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain . For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still .

    5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation. 6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. 7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.

    8 For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings? 9 Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus? 10 As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria; 11 Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?

    12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks. 13 For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man: 14 And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.

    That last bit you may recognize as a proclaimation from Nebuchadnezer before the Lord cast him into the wild for the time decreed. This is altogether amazing.

    The time is near cling no more to what will perish. Spend no more on what is nothing. Fulfill the righteous decree, use what little time you have left to hold up the cause of the needy and be ever ready to give an answer for the hope that is in you. Christ Jesus and Him Crucified. Him also the Lord resurrected from the Dead and made Him to be Judge over all. The Christ the Lord's anointed, grants to those He wills His righteousness and aquits them of thier sins making the dead alive by the power of the Holy Spirit, passing from death to life.

    Lord Jesus Come amen!

    America needs to wake up as do the foolish sleeping virgins. The supper is being prepared, we have been invited and the call is going out. Do not slumber and sleep! Get your lamps filled with oil to go out to meet the Bridegroom! Israel did not heed and ended up in Babylon!

  4. John Norton says:

    Cindy, Israel did not end up in Babylon, but in every country that Assyria ruled at that time, when Judah feel they went straight to Babylon and under Babylonian rule they were very close to the city of Babylon. But truthfully that doesn't, what matters is that both houses, Israel and Judah, fought a losing battle against God and lost. To this day, many people of Israel are scattered all over the world, while many of Judah are in Israel. The sad thing though is America is following the same paths that brought the whole land of Israel into a waste. Only now do we see the desert blooming with roses and many other things. Our leaders are so dumb, especially when it comes to the Bible and what it means. How will we fall? Not many people agree on that, but it could be ISIS. All we can truly say, America as a nation, and as a people need to open their eyes and realize, that unless we have a nationwide revival, like that of olden days, we will fall.
